Kenny Christensen from Utah’s Christensen Law Firm is sitting in the guest blogger’s chair today. The tips he provides are valuable for anyone who has been in a car accident. Thanks, Kenny!
1) Always call the police so they can determine fault and gather information. I received a phone call from a man who was in an accident with another driver who admitted at the scene that she caused the accident, but asked that he not call the police. She gave him all her insurance and contact information, but when the man called her insurance company the next day, the other driver told them she didn’t cause the accident and that it was his fault. The man ended up paying for the damage to his own car because the other driver changed her story and he couldn’t prove she was being dishonest.
2) Always follow the recommendation of the medical personnel at the scene of the accident. Recently a woman was in a serious Utah car crash and the EMT at the scene told her she should take the helicopter to the hospital for her injuries. Thinking that her injuries were not serious, the woman refused and instead had the ambulance transport her. Sadly, she died on the way to the hospital.
3) Contact a personal injury lawyer if you’ve been seriously injured. The insurance companies’ own study revealed that accident victims who have attorneys recover three and a half times more than those persons who do not have legal counsel. If you’ve been injured in a Utah accident, contact a Utah personal injury lawyer; not only will you recover more, you won’t have to deal with the insurance companies and their adjustors any longer.
